“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” – Micah 6:8

The 6:8 Project is a weekend that we set aside every year to focus on ways we can practice justice and mercy.

Since The 6:8 Project began in 2017, Calvary has packed hundreds of thousands of meals that were sent overseas, we’ve raised funds and awareness about the need for clean drinking water in many parts of the world, and we have helped refugee families as they settle in Colorado. We’ve participated in many other projects that have helped us understand God’s heart for those in need of justice and mercy.

THIS YEAR’S FOCUS

This Year’s Focus: Child Poverty
Child poverty is a major issue around the world. One third of those experiencing poverty globally are children. Many families must make impossible decisions like buying food for their children or purchasing medication or paying rent. It’s not uncommon for families to only eat once a day or once every couple of days to survive. Around 333 million children live in extreme poverty around the world. Recent data shows that 149 million children under five were estimated to be stunted (too short for their age) and 45 million were estimated to be wasted (too thin for their height). More than three million children die from hunger-related causes each year. At Calvary, we as a church want to be part of the solution to this problem.

Our Part: Child Sponsorship
Child sponsorship is a long-term partnership where an individual or family provides a monthly financial gift to support a child living in poverty. The funds are used to help provide essentials such as food, healthcare, and education within the child’s local community while also allowing sponsors to exchange letters with the child, building encouragement and relationship. Sponsored children receive access to nutritious food, regular medical checkups, immunizations, and hygiene education, helping stabilize their health and development. Sponsorship also supports education by helping cover school fees, supplies, tutoring, and life-skills training, which increases a child’s chances of completing school and securing meaningful employment in the future. Through child sponsorship, you’ll share the hope of the gospel with a child in desperate need by providing the practical care they need to escape poverty.

The Prophet Micah tells us what good actions God desires; to DO justice, LOVE mercy and WALK humbly with Him. Why does this please Him? Because it reflects His character. Putting Micah 6:8 into action helps us discover God’s heart and our place in His good purposes.
