REFUGEE SUPPORT

Calvary partners with the African Community Center (ACC) to walk alongside newly arrived refugees as they build new lives in Colorado. Whether it’s finding work, learning English, or simply having someone to call a friend — we believe the church has a role to play.

Our history with refugees

For years, Calvary volunteers have been serving refugee families. We began by walking alongside families as they settled into a new community — mentoring them as they searched for jobs, enrolled kids in school, navigated the city, and learned American culture. These were deeply rewarding relationships: we learned just as much from them as they shared their experiences and traditions with us. Behind the scenes, support volunteers helped with logistics, donations, and preparation.

English Conversation Circle

When the ACC surveyed local refugees about their biggest needs, learning English rose to the top. So together, we started the English Conversation Circle — a Friday morning gathering where about ten adults from Afghanistan practice English while building real relationships with Calvary volunteers.

Each week, a leader introduces a practical topic — like visiting the doctor — and volunteers work one-on-one or in small groups to practice everyday phrases. Some participants are studying for the U.S. citizenship test. Others are learning a language for the very first time. All of them show up eager, week after week.
