HEART OF ADVENT 2022
“Making Disciples. Empowering Leaders. Multiplying Churches.” You see this on the wall whenever you set foot in the Worship Center in Boulder, Erie, or Thornton. It’s the vision behind ministry at Calvary. For the Heart of Advent this year we’re looking to that vision as we focus on efforts to multiply churches locally and globally.
Calvary’s heart for multiplying the church locally goes back to the 1950’s when we began planting other churches in the Front Range — churches that are still ministering today to communities of people in Broomfield, Longmont, Littleton, Lafayette, and beyond. We have helped many local churches with financial needs and coaching. Our buildings have hosted other churches including The Well, the Boulder Chinese Church, Woori Church, La Familia de Dios, and Vida Nueva. Calvary’s Erie and Thornton campuses were also launched to help us reach more people in the places God has planted us.
Multiplying the church hasn’t been only a local effort. Calvary has supported ministries worldwide, sending resources and leaders to the ends of the earth with the message of hope in Jesus Christ. Over the years we have been able to support the global church by building a school and community center in South Sudan, planting a church in Brazil, sending medical teams to the Amazon, funding seminary students in Haiti, and launching missionaries around the world.
This year for the Heart of Advent we are going to intentionally focus on this value. We started the Heart of Advent twelve years ago to encourage the people of Calvary to “Spend Less, Give More, and Worship Fully.” It is easy to be caught up in the commercialism of the Christmas season; giving to others helps us remember the great gift God has given in Jesus, who was born so that he could one day save us from our sins. Over the years we have used the Heart of Advent offering to feed those in need, to launch churches in Sudan and Lebanon, to educate pastors and professors in Haiti, to build Habitat for Humanity houses, to provide equipment for local law enforcement officers, to pay down the mortgage on the Calvary Erie building, and to launch the Thornton campus. This special offering has been used to advance the kingdom, bless others, and reach those who are in need of hearing the gospel. This year is no different as we once again look to intentionally multiply the church in three different ways: in our local community, in the global community, and here at Calvary.
Locally, we will support Front Range Church Planting Network (FRCPN). By supporting FRCPN we are joining dozens of other churches across the Front Range who collaborate to help new church planters succeed. FRCPN works with church planters to understand the needs in our area, coach and care for them, and connect those church planters to established churches in the area. We love the Church, and we believe more churches are needed in the Front Range to reach all types of people, and partnering with FRCPN will help make that happen.
In the global community, we will assist our partner Horizons International as they minister to people in Ukraine. There is desperate need amidst the ongoing conflict. Horizons International is working with a network of Ukrainian churches to meet the physical and spiritual needs of people displaced by war in that country, combining gospel-centered humanitarian aid with training and support that helps churches and believers to effectively share the gospel and make disciples.
Finally, your gifts towards the Heart of Advent will be used in Calvary’s continually ongoing efforts to make disciples, empower leaders, and multiply churches right here at Calvary. One way we multiply the church is by allowing other churches, schools, ministries, and communities to use our facilities. The staff and volunteers of Calvary’s ministries are always working hard to fulfill our mission and vision as well. By making repairs and updates to our facilities, and by funding the ongoing work and new initiatives of our ministries, we will continue doing the work of Jesus in our communities.
We are asking that this Advent season you would consider giving generously to our vision of multiplying the church at home, in our communities, and globally. Thank you!
